ANN-MAREE JACOBS |
| Having been born into a Royal Australian Navy family and later
marrying a Navy man, I have spent my entire life moving.
Whilst living in Papua New Guinea in 1983 I attended a patchwork
class at the YMCA and then returning to Australia in 1985, I attended a
beginners class with Lyn Pebbles in the Sutherland Shire. This established a great grounding in what proved to become such an important
part of my life . In 1986 I sustained an injury which incapacitated me for nearly a year and being unable to do pretty much anything else, I turned to patchwork which helped me through this time. I think this is the reason I will always prefer to work by hand (if there were only the time!). Moving to Canberra in 1993, I joined Canberra Quilters and decided to formalize my patchwork teaching and consequently did my accreditation with Canberra Quilters. I have continued to teach around the Canberra region ever since . Having moved so many times (now living in my fiftieth home) and continuing my love of travelling, I have found patchwork has introduced me to many interesting, caring and giving people who have the easy acceptance of others, be they in Brisbane, Bendigo, Dorango, Washington, Port Moresby or Paris. From having had a Texas ranger sit beside me in the airport in Houston when our plane was held up due to a snow storm and telling me all about his Grandmother who made quilts for his family to the lady who has entrusted me with her grandmothers button collection due to the fact her family did not value them, has given me a wonderful sense of goodwill with people around the world. From the on-line groups I belong to where there is always someone who can answer a question or tell you where you can find something to the people who made over 4,000 quilts for the Kosovo refugees or send patchwork hearts to those who need support due to illness, loss of a loved one or injury, these people share a special place in my heart. The circle of friends who recently sent fourteen quilts to Africa to an Aids orphanage and are now working to help the fire victims in Victoria and the camaraderie of working on a community project just for the fun of it — these are some of the reasons patchwork has become such an integral part of my life. Every quilt is an expression of the individual — the use of colour, style of fabric, size and interpretation of a pattern produces a quilt that gives comfort, beauty and warmth. |

Since her retirement from the Australian Public Service she has undertaken a number of courses and workshops in Australia and overseas with world renowned needlewomen. Robyn has specialised in traditional embroidery techniques and crazy patchwork and considers herself a mixed media fibre artist. Robyn's family history ensures she is never far from a needle and thread as the first female member of her family in Australia was apprenticed as a milliner in 1834 and since then every generation has had its fair share of dressmakers, crocheters, embroiderers, milliners and patchworkers. |

JUST TOO EASY Ann-Maree Jacobs |
| Have you seen or do you have a fabric that you really don't want to cut up too small? Then this could be the quilt for you! This pattern is just a perfect way to utlise those "three wonderful fabrics you have been long waiting to create something special with". It is hard to believe just what you can create with just three fabrics and with such an easy block. This pattern needs only three fabrics though you can use four as well. This is a one block quilt, however, you can easily adapt the block in several ways. If you need to make a quilt quickly, this is the one for you as the name says it all — Just too Easy! |
|
| SATURDAY 17 JULY 10:00am – 4:00pm Fee: $60 |
SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER STRIP Sheryl-Ann Schaefer |
| Before strip quilts were popular, a couple of my idols were ahead of their time! This is an absolutely wonderful pattern — and over the years there have been many different takes on it. However I always return to the one that has been tried and true for me. I have lost count as to how many times I have created a quilt using this technique. The whole quilt is constructed from two very simple log cabin variations but it is how they are combined that gives this quilt its true beauty! And with this one — you will be surprised with the result if you reverse the colour placements! If you are looking to make a "special quilt" in a hurry (and aren't we all?), then this one is for you. |

CHARMS THE WAY Ann-Maree Jacobs |
| This is another fantastic way to use your stash and create another quilt you will be proud to own. This design looks fantastic as a wallhanging or even better, as a lap or bed quilt. It is created totally from simple squares and triangles and all from just three fabrics or three colour families. This is another fun day creating a fantastic design out of such a basic block and you will be surprised just how this technique gives the illusion of greater difficulty than it really is! Create a spectacular quilt that looks really complex and difficult, but only we will know just how simple, fast and fun it really is. |

BEYOND THE BLOCK Ann-Maree Jacobs |
| Have you ever seen that special panel or several smaller panels, or better still, a wonderful large floral fabric but not purchased it as you could not think of how to work magic with it? Well, ladies, wonder no more! This day is all about creating your very own design! We use tools you already have such as a Flying Geese ruler, Square 'n' Square ruler and others that you may not have discovered their full potential yet. We will use panels or large floral print fabric or even a border print — the choice is endless! This is really a free design class — where we throw all the rules out the window and if it doesn't fit, we will FUDGE IT!! |

| SATURDAY 16 OCTOBER 10:00am – 4:00pm Fee: $60 |
STARS — SIMPLE BUT VARIED Ann-Maree Jacobs |
| Stars are an ago old favourite with all quilters but it seems to be one that many of us avoid because we like to see perfect points and unfortunately it is not always that easy! But let us show you how to create a variety of stars by using some very basic techniques. With a few tools you probably already own — but didn't realise just how they could help — you can create those perfect star points. After this day you will no longer shy from Stars!!! |
